Where to Stay in Cebu: Paragon Suites

Last August, my sister’s friend invited her to stay at Paragon Suites as she has booked for an extra day she won’t be using. My sister dragged us with her, and because we loved our stay on the first day, we booked for another day. I have passed by the Paragon Suites building countless of times but has never considered staying there, mostly because it was far from where we were staying. But… our stay there was great and there were some things I thought I should share why you should consider staying at Paragon Suites in your next visit to Cebu (probably in the 2017 Sinulog?).

Wheelchair-friendly?: Yes. The hostel has an elevator, albeit small, that can accommodate one wheelchair.

Things I love about the hostel:

* Connectivity. Internet connection was relatively fast. We were actually impressed because there were three of us who did online work and all of our mobile phones were connected to the hotel’s Internet. We experienced a slowing down of the Internet only early evening, but over all, the connection was great.

* Free Water. There is free hot and cold water in the hallway of our floor. Water is inexpensive in Cebu but if you have a 2-yr old kid or a baby, free hot water would be a blessing because you have to constantly feed your child. We adults appreciated the hot water because we did not have to go out for coffee for merienda. We made our own inside the room.

* Free breakfast. The free breakfast was basic rice + protein (you can choose one: chorizo, longganisa, bacon, hotdog), egg, and coffee or juice. While it was basic, it helped us save time going out to find someplace to eat. An additional order of breakfast is P138. Rooms also come with free packs of instant coffee, creamer and sugar, and coffee cups. TIP: Homebakers, the bakery next door, is my husband and my favorite breakfast place. They have delicious bread.

* Good location. The pension house is near the Provincial Capitol, Fuente Osmena Circle, the Rizal Library Museum, further down would be the CAP and Pres. Osmena Memorabilia Museum; many thrift shops, including this and this and this; numerous food places (as in a lot of food places, both fast food and local eateries, in the area); and they are just a walk away from the hostel. Also near the hostel are the Redemptorist Church and the Capitol Parish Church.

The toilet and bath was very spacious and actually adequate, but I did not take photos because it was already messy because of our usage. There was adequate toilet paper and enough towels for everyone, including my 2-year old nephew.

Do note: If you are sleeping near the road, it can get noisy because there is a disco/bar in front and there are many vehicles who ply the area. Also, Juana Osmena is a dimly-lit street with no side walk, so be careful when walking alone at night.

What's near the area?

Homebaker's (one of our best breakfast places, order the chorizo)
BarakoHaus (local cafe serving civet coffee)
Yakimix (lunch and dinner buffet serving Japanese food)
Politics Cafe (daily lunch buffet for P299, except weekends)
Zubuchon (home of the best pig ever, according to Anthony Bourdain)
Manila Foodshoppe (serving Chinese-style food, best siomai for me is here)
Ninoy's Payag (for stand-up comedies and beer)
Cebu Provincial Capitol (for history and photo-ops)
Rizal Library and Museum (spend a day poring over local history books)
Fuente Osmena Circle (for jogging and winding down)

What to do near the area?
